Casa Bella Vista is just 1.6 kms (1 mile) from the nearest village of Valle Grande with a local shop and bar, and 3 kms (2 miles) from the medieval fortified hillside town of Picinisco.
Villa Latina, 4 kms (2.5 miles) distant, is the nearest larger village with many shops, supermarket, chemist, butchers, bakers, hardware shops, 24-hour petrol station, several good restaurants, bars, cafes and takeaways – all at reasonable prices.
Atina (Piazza Garibaldi and Picinisco are shown in the video below) is a busy market town just 10 minutes away by car – 9 kms (5.5 miles), and offers a superb Monday morning market and local shops of all types, from garden centres to gift shops and everything in-between. Valle Grande, Villa Latina and Atina are all favourite stops for morning coffee, and at just over 1 euro, it is less than a third of the cost of a cup of coffee in the UK.
Not being a ‘touristy’ area, eating out is also much cheaper, at just over half the cost of the UK average and excellent wines are available locally at less than 50% of UK prices. Young, local wines are seldom bottled for export so have none of the usual chemicals and sulphides put in to stabilise and preserve bottled wines for long distance travel. They are therefore an excellent buy, cheap and well worth drinking. We always buy the ‘house wines’ which are usually local which means ‘fewer or no chemicals, cheap and no hangover …..’
In this part of Italy the food served is always of excellent quality, fresh, local and in season. There is a large choice of eateries from pasta/pizza takeaways to good class restaurants all offering exceptional value and choice, and all only a short drive away. For a modest fee our English speaking driver will take you to, and collect you from, any local restaurants and bars you want to visit.
